The exact image rules for each marketplace — size, frame fill, main-image rules and the mistakes that quietly push listings down.
Amazon requires every main product image to be on a pure white #FFFFFF background, with the product filling at least 85% of the frame, at minimum 1000 px on the longest side (2000 px recommended for zoom). No watermarks, no text, no accessories outside the listing. Up to nine images per listing are allowed; seven is the practical sweet spot.
Shopify accepts JPEG, PNG, and WebP up to 4472×4472 px and 20 MB. The conversion sweet spot is a 2048×2048 square master in JPEG — Shopify's CDN automatically generates WebP for browsers that support it. Performance matters: the hero image is almost always the Largest Contentful Paint element and a ranking signal.
Etsy allows up to 20 photos per listing (the limit rose from 10 in 2025) and accepts JPEG, PNG, and GIF files. The recommended hero size is 2700×2025 px (4:3 ratio) at 72 DPI. Etsy's 2026 AI imagery policy requires that at least one image reflect the actual shipped item; lifestyle and contextual images can be AI-generated where the product itself is real.
Flipkart requires product images on a pure white background, minimum 2000×2000 pixels, centred composition with no text or watermarks. Listings whose images miss these rules can be rejected or held back in Seller Hub, so check each image before you upload.
Walmart Marketplace requires product images on a white background, with the product filling at least 75% of the frame, at minimum 1000 pixels on the longest side (2200 px recommended). Walmart's image ranking signal weighs structured metadata (alt text, captions) more heavily than other marketplaces.
Meesho requires catalog images on a clean white background, square (1:1) aspect ratio, with the product centred and clearly visible. Minimum 600×600 px is accepted but 1000×1000 px or higher is recommended; the hero must be free of text, watermarks, brand logos, and contact details. Meesho's catalog quality score weighs image clarity heavily, and listings that fail the white-background or no-text checks are rejected at upload rather than silently demoted.
eBay requires at least one photo per listing, a minimum of 500 pixels on the longest side, and recommends 1600 pixels to enable zoom and Vehicle/Image search. Photos must have no borders, no added text or graphics (outside permitted watermarks), and no promotional banners. eBay allows up to 24 photos free per listing, and listings with more high-quality photos see measurably higher sell-through.
